Honkai: Star Rail has entered Version 4.0. The release of new characters has largely maintained a pace of two new limited 5-star characters per major version, and new major versions also introduce new Paths. Today, we bring you a count of characters by Path. Let's take a look together!
TOP 9: Elation - 2 characters

The Path of Elation is a newly introduced Path in the current version. Even the new form for the protagonist hasn't surfaced yet, so the low number of characters is expected. However, looking back at the journey of the Path of Remembrance from Version 3.0, it's hard not to look forward to the future development of the Path of Elation!
TOP 8: Preservation - 6 characters

Although Preservation is a launch Path, the survival slot in a team has at most one position, which leads to a slower release rate for characters of this Path. Moreover, Preservation and Abundance compete severely for the survival role, not to mention that other Paths can also be designed as survival roles. Therefore, it's understandable that there are fewer Preservation characters.
TOP 7: Remembrance - 6 characters

Remembrance is a new Path introduced in Version 3.0, so having few characters is not surprising. However, aside from the Trailblazer, all others are limited 5-star characters. Among them, four members with pink hair form a "fleet" that represents the pinnacle of combat power in Honkai: Star Rail. The Trailblazer · Remembrance also boasts exceptional mechanics and numerical strength, and Aglaea shines in the Currency War. The Path of Remembrance can truly be said to win through quality.
TOP 6: Abundance - 7 characters

The low number of Abundance characters shares a similar reason with Preservation. However, the Path of Abundance boasts a true god-tier character — Gallagher! His mechanics are ahead of their time, with high healing output and additional functionalities including debuff cleansing, toughness reduction, generating Skill Points, and self-advance action. He is also a free 4-star character. Even today, when everyone has the free Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae, Gallagher is still chosen as the survival slot in teams.
TOP 5: Erudition - 10 characters

Erudition is designed as the ultimate Path for multi-target situations, which inherently means it may be less optimal in scenarios with three or fewer enemies. However, the two Erudition characters introduced in Version 3.0 offered a new interpretation for this Path.
The Herta optimized the compensation logic against elite enemies, while Anaxa changed the damage delivery method to bouncing, which actually gave her an advantage in single-target situations. During Version 3.0, The Herta's numerical strength and mechanics once led the Erudition "flagship" that preceded her. Unfortunately, no particularly synergistic Erudition teammates were released afterwards, and her cross-environment adaptability was limited, forcing her to retreat to Pure Fiction.
TOP 4: The Hunt - 11 characters

Actually, The Hunt is the most "generous" Path. Among its six limited 5-star characters, one is in the standard warp pool, one is in the Stellar Convergence shop, and two are given to Trailblazers for free. Furthermore, the subsequent 4-star characters are all very strong in the Sub-DPS role. Apart from being extremely single-target focused and requiring manual play for rotation planning, The Hunt is arguably a flawless Path. It's given away so much for free, so what more could you ask for?
TOP 3: Harmony - 12 characters

Honkai: Star Rail once had sayings like "Harmony Rail" and "always pull for Harmony". Before the Remembrance fleet, teams relied heavily on support buffers to assist a single-core Main DPS, so Harmony characters were basically in high demand. With the introduction of multi-core teams like the Remembrance fleet, where characters mutually buff each other, and a clearer differentiation between various team systems, the demand for Harmony has somewhat decreased. However, every single Harmony character has undoubtedly had their moment in the spotlight!
TOP 2: Nihility - 14 characters

Although the Path of Nihility doesn't have a very strong presence, who would have thought that Nihility has quietly accumulated so many characters!
The Path of Nihility primarily produces support characters and members of non-direct damage systems, so it isn't mentioned much in discussions about the "agent wars." In the past, it generally wasn't a very popular choice when pulling. But that was then. Now, the Path of Nihility encompasses two powerful systems: Break and DoT.
TOP 1: Destruction - 14 characters

When in doubt, release a Destruction Path character. This is probably also a result of Nanook's widespread destruction. After all, the ultimate single-target specialization belongs to The Hunt Path, and the ultimate multi-target specialization belongs to the Erudition Path. The one that excels at both is none other than Destruction.
Looking around, all characters on the Path of Destruction are genuinely Main DPS roles; there's no concept of a Sub-DPS role here. The limited 5-star characters are each stronger than the last—Nanook's personal selection!
That concludes this edition's character count by Path. Was this result within your expectations? Which Path's characters do you use the most? Feel free to leave a comment and join the discussion! ~
